Roman Blinds vs Venetian Blinds – Which is best?

Posted in General News

Choosing the right blinds for your home can be a challenge – with so many different options available, how do you know which ones to go for?

The answer is, it depends on your needs. If you’re looking for Venetian blinds or Roman blinds in Stevenage, read on to find out the differences between the two.

Roman blinds

Roman blinds are crafted from fabric, which draws up into pleats when opened. They combine the look of curtains with the functionality of blinds, and suit a whole host of settings from offices and bedrooms to restaurants and hotels.

As they’re made from fabric, you’ll find a wide range of different designs available, so there’s sure to be something to suit your home and your tastes. A simple chain on the side makes them easy to raise and lower, and you can also find Roman blinds with thicker linings to keep out even more light.

On the downside, they can be more difficult to clean. While surface dirt can be vacuumed off, a thorough clean requires the whole blind to be taken down and washed in soapy water.

Venetian blinds

Venetian blinds, on the other hand, are generally made from wood, metal or uPVC, and consist of a series of interlocking slats that can be opened and closed via a simple side pull cord. Their design means that they offer great control of incoming light, and privacy too – simply change the angle of the open slats to keep light coming in while remaining hidden from public view.

Their construction means that they’re durable and designed to last, and they’re easy to clean too. A simple rub with a clean, damp cloth can remove any surface dirt. They’re perfect for all sorts of rooms, with uPVC blinds providing the protection against humidity needed for window coverings in rooms exposed to moisture, such as the kitchen and the bathroom.

Moisture can be an issue, though, where wooden Venetian blinds are chosen, as exposure can cause the wood to warp and discolour. They also tend to require more regular cleaning, due to the number of slats, and replacing individual broken slats can be tricky.

Whichever option you go for, think carefully about where it will be installed, how the design will look, how much light you want to filter out and the level of customisation required. Both Roman and Venetian blinds can add a great deal to a room’s look and feel – but the option you choose is all down to your own needs and tastes.
